What is ServiceTitan Configurable Payroll and do I need it?
Configurable Payroll is ServiceTitan's built-in pay automation engine. Instead of pulling data out of the system and calculating commissions, splits, finance fee deductions, and piece rate pay in a spreadsheet, Configurable Payroll does the calculation inside ServiceTitan based on how your technicians actually performed. If your team is spending more than a few hours a week on payroll, dealing with technician disputes, or you're the only person who can run payroll — you need it.
How long does a Configurable Payroll implementation take?
Most single-location implementations are complete in four to six weeks. That includes building your pay profiles, two weeks of parallel testing alongside your existing process, and training your team so they can manage it going forward without calling us every time something changes. The fastest we've done it is three weeks when the client came in with clean, finalized pay plans.
Do my pay plans need to be finalized before we start?
Yes — and this is the most common reason implementations stall. Configurable Payroll is only as accurate as the pay structure you feed it. Before we build anything, we walk through your pay plans with you, flag anything that could cause downstream issues, and confirm everything is locked before we start the build. Trying to change pay plans mid-build costs time and creates testing errors.
What does NIFT actually build during a Configurable Payroll project?
We build custom pay profiles for every technician role in your business — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, install, service, apprentice, whatever your structure looks like. That includes commission rules, sold-by and performed-by splits, finance fee deductions, non-commissionable items, piece rate configurations, and spiff rules. We also set up the payroll approval dashboard, configure technician mobile sign-off, and align your master pay file export to match your payroll processor — whether that's ADP, Paychex, or another platform.
Will my technicians be able to see their pay before we process?
Yes, and this is one of the biggest wins operators don't expect. Once Configurable Payroll is set up correctly, technicians can see their commissions building throughout the week directly in the ServiceTitan app. No more waiting for a paycheck they can't explain. This alone reduces disputes and builds trust with your field team.
What happens after the build is done — are we on our own?
No. We run two weeks of parallel processing with you before you go live, so we can catch anything that doesn't match expectations before it hits a real paycheck. We also train your payroll admin and office manager so they know how to make changes when pay plans evolve. For ongoing support, we offer a monthly Payroll Health Program where we come back in, audit your profiles, and make sure everything is still dialed in — especially important after turnover or a pay plan change.
